As many of the few readers of this blog know, the Hunter College High School debate team has the dubious distinction of being coached by yours truly. This weekend we trekked up to Albany, New York, for the New York State Championship tournament. With Isabel continuing to to whine about this blog, and the kids spending more time in the parking lot of the hotel in the ritualistic behavior that has become tradition at this tournament, I figured things were looking bleak for Hunter this year.
However, as it turns out, the kids were in excellent form this weekend. We are just beginning to compete regularly in public forum debate, and our varsity team came in seventeenth place, a speaker point or two away from octo-finals. In JV public… Continue reading
