One of the best things about coming to Central Asia is good grilled meat. I was a little disappointed when lunch yesterday was Italian food. I had spaghetti and grilled trout. It was tasty and supposedly cooked by an Italian chef, but I had to admit to longing for some shashlik. The thing is, everyone else I was eating with are native to Central Asia, so I guess they don’t get excited as I do with the prospect of an authentic Kyrgyz dinner. For dinner I did get grilled lamb ribs and they were good, but not as good as others I’ve had here. They brew Carlsberg here locally, so that’s the freshest and least expensive beer to drink here. I visited my mother today, but will be off to Kyrgyzstan tonight. I brought my mother an MP3 player today, hoping that she’ll enjoy all the songs that a friend put on them for her. My friend has been making playlists for seniors for a while now and loading them onto inexpensive and easy to use MP3 players so that seniors can listen to the music they like. While there are seniors who have taken to new technology on their own, what my friend realized is that there are a lot of seniors who can benefit from things like MP3 players, but that just don’t have anyone who will provide them access… Continue reading |
