It’s only April, and losing three games in embarrassing fashion to the Red Sox is no reason for the Dumbrenners to fire Cashman and Girardi and start to trade away all our top prospects for over the hill veterans in order to try to salvage the inaugural season at the new Yankee Stadium. You can’t help but look at the standings, though, and wonder how good an idea it was for the Yankees to let Torre go in order to hire Girardi. The first night game at the new Yankee Stadium. So far, so good for the Yankees. We’re up 4-0. The bad news is that the Neophytes have had a lousy night so far. But, the night is young for the Neophytes. It’s been nice seeing Giambi again.
Since I had agreed to judge at the National Public Policy Forum, I sold my tickets to today’s Yankee game today. On the way home, I checked the score of the Yankee game – it was 20-2 at the time. 20-2? They buy this team a $1.3 billion stadium and they lose to the Indians, the Cleveland Indiands, the guys with the racist team logo that hasn’t won a World Series since 1948. I know, I know … it’s only one game, yeah, that’s easy to say if you’re the friggin’ Indians. This is crazy.
