YouthCamp: Day Two, Afternoon Sessions

I know I’m over a week late in blogging about the afternoon sessions at the YouthCamp, but it was a hectic week last week and with the YouthCamp being so memorable, I figured I’d be able to come back to the YouthCamp, which I’m doing now.

Most of my afternoon on the second day of the YouthCamp was taken up with a coordinators meeting for the Youth Action Fund, so I was only able to attend three sessions.

The first sessions was on the visual presentation of information, which was offered by Hernan Bonomo, who works with me here in New York.  Hernan is a gifted graphic designer and highlighted a few techniques that could be used to make it easier for people to understand the message you’re… Continue reading

YouthCamp: Day Two, Morning Sessions

The first morning sessoin I went to was on UNICEF, which focused on the importance of developing applicatoins for mobile phones to benefit children, particularly in Southern Africa.  I had seen this presentation before, last year in South Africa.  UNICEF has developed a software package, RapidSMS, which is a powerful web based SMS software package.  UNICEF is also supporting a lot of interesting ways to use mobile phone for education, primarily nonformal education.

After we were finished being fruit, we heard a very nice presentation on BarCamps in CIS countries.  … Continue reading

YouthCamp 2009: Day One, Morning Sessions

youthcamp-istanbulSome (perhaps even the majority) of the few people who follow my blog are here in Istanbul at this YouthCamp. Rather that enjoying the wondrous grilled meat that Istanbul has to offer (more on Turkish grilled meat in an upcoming blog post), these readers were more interested in complaining about this blog. Rather than complimenting me on having figured out how to get the WordPress application for the iPhone to work, which impressed the heck out of me,they complained about my posting this information and kvetched about my kvetching about my lost luggage (btw, I did finally get my luggage last night, which was a relief).   So, since I don’t want to lose the few… Continue reading
